Indian Ambassador inaugurated an Eye Camp and interacted with local youths in Pokhara of Kaski district

On Wednesday, June 28, 2017, H.E. Ambassador of India, Shri Manjeev Singh Puri during his visit to Pokhara interacted with local youths at Hotel Landmark, Pokhara.  They discussed issues of mutual interest including people to people contacts. The event was organized by Glocal Pvt Ltd.

2.      On 29 June, 2017, Ambassador Puri inaugurated an eye camp organized by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh in collaboration with the Embassy of India, Kathmandu for carrying out eye tests for the local residents. The Eye Camp, held in Sainik Basti, Lekhanath, Pokhara witnessed a good turnout. Spectacles and vision devices were also distributed free of cost to the citizens needing them.

3.      India has been providing assistance to NNJS for its Eye Care Programme in Nepal as part of India-Nepal Cooperation Programme since 2001. Under the programme, over 1,25,000 people have so far been cured of cataract and trachoma and optical devices/spectacles have been distributed to more than 65,000 school going children from different regions of Nepal.

4.      The Government of India is also providing financial assistance to various programs for improvement of health services in Nepal. These include organizing health camps for ENT & Rehabilitation services through B.P. Eye Foundation Children’s Hospital, diabetes control through Gandhi Global Family Nepal and the Goitre Control Programme for the Government of Nepal.

5.      Under India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme, the Government of India has been providing financial assistance for 552 large and small development projects completed or being implemented in almost all the districts of Nepal.  These development projects, mainly in the sectors of education, health and infrastructure development, have been undertaken in response to local needs and in partnership with the Government of Nepal.
