REMARKS BY FOREIGN SECRETARY MS. SUJATHA SINGH ON DEPARTURE AT TIA, KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 15, 2013

September 16, 2013

I have had very fruitful discussions with Foreign Secretary Mr. Arjun Bahadur Thapa. We reviewed the progress made in the multi-faceted bilateral relationship between our two countries. I conveyed to him our support for the successful conduct of free and fair elections by the Government of Nepal as scheduled. I reiterated the commitment of Government of India for the logistical support sought by the Government of Nepal well in time for the elections.

I also called on the President, Rt. Hon’ble Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, and Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Rt. Hon’ble Mr. Khil Raj Regmi and Foreign Minister, Mr. Madhav Prasad Ghimire, besides meeting political leaders of Nepal. I conveyed India’s commitment to working with the people of Nepal for a democratic, stable, peaceful and prosperous Nepal.

Our age old relations with Nepal are marked by historical, civilisational and familial ties and will continue to be a matter of highest priority for us.

Thank you.
