Message of Hon'ble Prime Minister of India for the 3lst SAARC Charter Day

December 11, 2015

I extend my heartiest felicitations to the people of south Asia on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the SAARC Charter.

The strength of SAARC lies in its diversity and harmonious co-existence. SAARC has made considerable progress over the last three decades. Yet, SAARC is still a work in progress. Increase in intra-regional trade, investments, connectivity and people to people contacts is the demand of the times. SAARC should build on its achievements and seek innovative ways for increased cooperation.

My Government believes in strengthening regional cooperation and integration and has taken several initiatives to impart momentum to the SAARC process. India will remain proactive and will continue supporting regional and sub-regional projects for regional integration.

On this day, let us rededicate ourselves to the vision of a connected south Asia, in which there is free flow of ideas, people, goods and services for the prosperity of the region.
