On the eve of the 61st Republic Day, Indian Embassy organized a musical evening on January 25, 2010 in Kathmandu where sufi singer, Ustad Sufi Bawra enthralled the audience with his music. The mix of sufi song including that of Bulle Shah and Amir Khusro were well received and appreciated by the fully packed audience at the Army Auditorium in Kathmandu. Ustad Sufi Bawra learnt Hindustani classical music from Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya, Pandit Vasant Thakar and Pandit Madhup Mudgal at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi. He has rendered his performance all over the country. He also went to Afghanistan to represent India through Indian Council for Cultural Relations from July 2007 to August, 2009 to train Afghani students in Hindustani classical music, folk music & sufiana music. In Afghanistan, he got the title of “AFGHANI-E-HIND SUFI BAWRA’ from the citizens of Afghanistan.
